IT HAS been confirmed that an Island Roads vehicle was involved in today's collision at Church Litten.
The crash, outside Marks and Spencer, saw two pedestrians taken to hospital with serious injuries - one airlifted by an air ambulance which landed in the park.
An Island Roads spokesperson told the County Press: "Our thoughts are with those affected by a collision involving one of our vehicles in Church Litten, Newport, earlier today.
"A police investigation is underway and it would not be proper to comment further at this stage."
The Island’s road network is being upgraded by Island Roads under the Highways PFI. It is also responsible for the maintenance and management of the network, undertaking functions including winter maintenance, street sweeping, amenity grass cutting, verge maintenance, gulley cleansing and operating the CCTV network.

Emergency service teams were called to the incident outside Marks and Spencer at around 12pm.
The Isle of Wight NHS Trust says one person was transferred to the mainland by the air ambulance, which landed on Church Litten Park.
A second person was taken by ambulance to St Mary's Hospital.
The road has now reopened.
