Newport town centre is open to traffic again this morning (Tuesday), after yesterday's 'serious collision' prompted a closure of the Isle of Wight town.

Police and paramedics were called to the High Street, at its junction with St James' Street, at around 3pm.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed its officers attended a 'serious collision'.

The Isle of Wight County Press was told a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

The incident prompted the closure of many roads in the town.

Firefighters were also called to the scene, to provide scene safety.

Much of the town centre was closed late into the night and a cordon was in place, however it has since reopened to traffic.

Traffic is running smoothly, this morning.
