A vessel built on the Isle of Wight is making history as the UK’s first eco-sightseeing jetboat, officially launching on London’s River Thames this summer.
The Rocket Rebel, built by Cowes-based Diverse Marine, is set to revolutionise river tourism with its cutting-edge low-emission technology.
Commissioned by sightseeing operator Thames Rockets, the 16m vessel can carry 26 passengers and is powered by twin jet engines running on sustainable HVO biofuel.

The craft cuts nitrous oxide emissions by 90 per cent and can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90 per cent compared to standard marine diesel, helping move the capital closer to its 2030 Net Zero Carbon targets.
“We’re incredibly proud to see a vessel of this importance being built here on the Isle of Wight,” said Ben Colman, director at Diverse Marine.
“It shows the world that Cowes continues to be a centre of excellence for marine innovation and high-performance boatbuilding.”
With Diverse Marine also advancing projects in electric ferries and hybrid defence craft, the Rocket Rebel underlines the Isle of Wight’s growing role in clean maritime innovation — setting a new standard for sustainable tourism both at home and abroad.
