'Illegal' Isle of Wight road markings in East Cowes 'will be removed'

Reading 'pedestrians walk facing the traffic', the spray-painted signage is believed to have been placed on Friday (May 23).

They can be seen around Cambridge Road and lead up to Old Road, on both sides of the road.

Isle of Wight councillor for East Cowes, Karl Love, spotted the markings on Saturday (May 24).

Questioning where they had come from, he said they were 'unreadable, low quality and messy'.

"This is very messy and looks like graffiti.

He added that he has campaigned to have speed reduction measures in place in the area for years but got "absolutely nowhere".

He said: "The signage has reminded me that we must ensure that this residential road is protected with speed reduction measures to protect the school [Holy Cross Primary School] and those living alongside it."

A spokesperson said: "We’d also like to point out that such spraying is considered graffiti and therefore illegal and we’d also, respectfully,  ask people not to do it."

The markings are to be removed in due course.
