A FEW bouts of snowfall are expected on the Isle of Wight today (Monday), with temperatures falling throughout the week, according to a local weather expert.

The IW Met Service is forecasting a fine, but cold start, with sunny spells and patches of cloud.

The service's Jamie Russell, says it will get cloudier as the day goes on, bringing a few light snow flurries.

These, he says, are more likely to fall as sleet close to the eastern and south-eastern coasts.

Expect temperatures of 2 to 3C, but closer to 4C in the far east and south-east.

Wind gusts of 14 to 25mph are anticipated, rising as high as 22 to 38mp on more exposed coasts and hills.

Send the Isle of Wight County Press photos and videos of any snow you spot!

Snowfall of 0 to 2mm is forecast, but no accumulations are expected.

“There could be a slight dusting on the ground in places,” said Jamie Russell, previously.

“Although chances are, it will be just few a few light flurries with nothing really accumulating, but we will keep a close eye on things.”

Island Roads gritters were out last night, treating the road ahead of the expected snowfall.

They treated precautionary routes and the bridge decks at Stag Lane and Foxes Road in Newport.

A yellow cold-health alert remains active for the Isle of Wight.

Issued by the Met Office, together with the UK Health and Security Agency, the alert runs until Friday (January 12) at midday.

The national forecaster has predicted a temperature drop for the Island throughout the week.

A yellow cold-health alert means cold weather will primary impact those over the age of 65 or those with pre-existing health conditions.
