A boat was toppled, when Storm Henk's strong winds swept through East Cowes on Tuesday.

It was blown onto its side, damaging two others, at a site off Kingston Road, adjacent to the River Medina.

Gary Hall, CEO of  Cowes Harbour Commission, which runs Kingston Boatyard, said: "Despite thorough safety checks, the strong winds knocked over one boat in hard storage.

"This in turn damaged two further boats.

"The affected boat owners have been informed and all other vessels stored at Kingston have been fully checked for safety."

Gusts of 82 knots (94 mph) was recorded during the afternoon on January 2, off Alum Bay, according to NCI Needles.

Earlier in the week, a waterspout was spotted.

On Saturday, December 30, Steven Plumstead shared a video of the phenomenon, which he revealed had been filmed in Seaview, just before midnight.

Comments on Steven's post, on the Isle of Wight Community Information page, echoed what he had seen, with Islanders writing they feared windows would blow in and roofs would be lost.

Meanwhile, on December 29, more cracks appeared on a main road into Ventnor - know as The Graben.

It had only reopened to traffic on December 15, following sewer repair work.

A team was on site on Tuesday, to assess the situation.

An Island Roads spokesperson said: “The Graben is a known geological location which is often subject to ground movement.

"The area is monitored by specialist electronic equipment installed in the ground as well as visual inspections of any surface changes.

"Island Roads are aware of the signs of movement.

"Visual monitoring will continue, and we remain alert to take necessary action should it be deemed necessary.”
