There is still no date for the opening of Shorwell Shute on the Isle of Wight, ten days after a "substantial landslip" blocked the road.

Around 200 tonnes slipped from the bank onto the highway on Monday, November 13.

Last week Island Roads said work to remove debris could not be carried out until the site stabilises, following recent bad weather.

Councillor for Shorwell, Cllr Claire Critchison, has confirmed the landowner has been identified and there is no dispute about the route needing to be cleared.

"It will be done", she said.

"The time scales however, cannot be guaranteed."

Like Island Roads, Cllr Critchison said the ground is too saturated after heavy rainfall.

She said work has begun to dry up the land and get water out with ditches and run off areas.

She said: "A tree surgeon will be assessing the fallen material and roots so that there is minimal damage to the area around them.

"Once this is complete then soil movement can commence. After that stabilisation will be required.

"The safety to teams working on it and to the public is paramount.

"All involved realise the need to have the road open again as soon as possible for all working and living in the area as well as for emergency access."

She thanked residents for their patience.
