A WOMAN was arrested following an incident in Ryde last night (Thursday) – one which saw a van crash at a zebra crossing.

At around 9.20pm, officers spotted a white Vauxhall Astra van with cloned plates on Union Road.

They followed the vehicle until it stopped in East Hill Road.

As police approached the car, the male driver released the handbrake and the car collided with a pelican crossing light.

The male driver ran off and was not located, said a spokesperson for the force.

Police say the female passenger went on to assault two officers.

A 32-year-old woman from Woodbridge, Suffolk, was arrested on suspicion of assault by beating of an emergency worker.
