Emergency services are still dealing with a serious collision on the Isle of Wight this evening (Wednesday, August 16), and are keen to identify any witnesses.

UPDATE: a man in his 70s has died, police have confirmed.

Police were called at 3.23pm this afternoon to reports of a single vehicle collision on Military Road near to Whale Chine, between Brighstone and Chale.

A motorbike left the carriageway and came to rest in a roadside ditch.

Multiple emergency services attended the scene, including police crews, ambulance and air ambulance.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary believe another motorcyclist may have been riding just ahead of the motorbike involved in the collision.

Officers are keen to identify the motorcyclist riding ahead, as they may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it.

A spokesperson from the force said: "If this is you, or you have any information that could assist ongoing enquiries surrounding this collision, please contact police on 101 quoting 44230331189."

Closures are in place on Military Road surrounding the scene and are likely to remain for a number of hours.
