Four candidates are vying for the Isle of Wight Council seat vacated by disgraced councillor Daryll Pitcher — and they include his mum.

The former Vectis Party leader was jailed in April for historic child sex offences and resigned from Isle of Wight Council local authority earlier this month.

His departure forced a by-election in Wootton Bridge.

Linda Pitcher,  a member of Wootton Bridge Parish Council, is among four people hoping to replace him.

The final candidates are:

  • Ed Hopper – The Conservative Party
  • Linda Pitcher – Vectis Party
  • Sarah Redrup – Liberal Democrat
  • Michael Smith – Green Party

Voters in Wootton will have their say on August 24 and this will be the first by-election to require photo ID in order to cast your ballot.

Register to vote by Tuesday, August 8.

In May 2021, Pitcher won the seat by 175 votes for the Vectis Party.

He previously occupied it for UKIP between 2013 and 2017.

Conservative Barry Abraham has also held the position in recent years.
