An Isle of Wight by-election will be held in Wootton Bridge, on August 24, after the resignation of the ward's former councillor, Daryll Pitcher, who was convicted of rape and subsequently jailed.

Nominations are open until July 28.

If you live in the area, you can register to vote until August 8.

The last point at which you can apply for or amend a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday, August 9.

The last point at which you can apply for a new proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday, August 16.

In 2021, Daryll Pitcher won 533 votes for the Vectis Party and was elected councillor. 

In April, he resigned as the Vectis Party's leader, following his conviction - around three months after he was found guilty of the charge. 

He resigned from the Isle of Wight Council last week.

Those who also ran in 2021 were Conservative Barry Abraham, who came second, with 358 votes.

The Green Party's Susan Betts was third, with 152 votes.

John Ward was fourth, with 83 votes.

In total, in 2021, 1,136 valid votes were cast, which was a turnout of 39.7 per cent.
