A man arrested following an attack on a traffic warden on the Isle of Wight has had his bail extended.

A civil officer was assaulted on Wellington Road, Carisbrooke on March 28, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said.

Police confirmed they were called at 9.02am, alongside paramedics.

The incident happened near Christ the King College.

A 29-year-old man was detained on suspicion of assault. He was later bailed until June 28.

Police have now confirmed he remains on bail.

It has been extended until July 26.

At the time of the assault, an Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said: “We take abusive behaviour directed at our officers extremely seriously and council staff should be able to do their job without fear of violence."

The traffic warden was being supported by the council, the statement added.
