A man arrested following an assault on a traffic warden on the Isle of Wight has been bailed.

Police and paramedics were called to Wellington Road, Carisbrooke on Tuesday, March 28.

A civil officer was attacked, officers said. They received reports at 9.02am.

It is said to have happened near Christ the King College.

The force has confirmed a 29-year-old man detained on suspicion of assault has now been bailed.

At the time, an Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said of the assault: “We take abusive behaviour directed at our officers extremely seriously, and council staff should be able to do their job without fear of violence.

“This incident is a police matter and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time. 

“We are supporting the civil enforcement officer involved.”

Police said enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
