An investigation has been launched to find the source of a technical issue which has caused the Isle of Wight floating bridge to be out of service since Saturday (May 20).

The East Cowes to Cowes service was suspended on Saturday evening, with a launch service for foot passengers and cyclists put into operation.

The IW Council has confirmed the floating bridge has a problem with the 'generators cutting out'.

A spokesperson said: "A specialist contractor from the mainland is currently on board and investigating the source of the issue.

"We will issue updates when available."

The council has not released an expected date for the service to resume.

The replacement launch service will continue to operate across the River Medina during the investigation and repair works.
