The Isle of Wight floating bridge returned to its usual service yesterday evening (Monday) and remains in operation this morning (Tuesday).

On Saturday evening (May 20), the service was suspended due to a technical error which saw a mainland contractor hired to investigate the source.

The IW Council confirmed the floating bridge had a problem with the 'generators cutting out'.

At 8pm yesterday, the service returned to the River Medina after the specialist engineer identified the issues and work was carried out.

A council spokesperson said: "Adjustments to the generator systems have been made, followed by a number of successful test runs and monitoring, allowing operations to resume.

“The IW Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by the disruption to service.”
