Members of the NEU teaching union are walking out of classrooms tomorrow (Thursday), in a row over pay.

They're calling for funded pay rises for teachers, as schools find themselves footing the bill from their already dwindling resources.

It's the second day of strikes this year — the first, in February, saw disruption across a number of schools.

The government has always condemned the industrial action.

Peter Shreeve, Assistant District Secretary of the National Education Union (NEU), said: “So many on the Island were hoping for progress.

"It’s disappointing that so little progress has been made to solve this issue. The NEU has repeatedly said they are willing to have substantial negotiations at any time, in order to tackle pay and workload, which impacts on recruitment and retention."

On Wednesday, February 1, NEU members gathered for a rally in St Thomas' Square, in Newport.

There were also picket lines outside school gates across the Island.
