Strike action by members of the NEU teaching union will hit Isle of Wight schools on Thursday.

While action is already taking place in other parts of the country, on the Island, some teachers are due to walk out on March 2, 15 and 16.

They are calling for funded pay rises for teachers, as schools find themselves footing the bill from their already dwindling resources.

The government has condemned the strike action.

Earlier this year, the NEU announced plans for its members to walk out on seven school days.

Unless a deal is agreed, any one school will be affected on four of those days, depending on their location.

On the Island, the first day of action was Wednesday, February 1.

While many students stayed home, some completing online learning, NEU members gathered for a rally in St Thomas's Square, in Newport.

There were also picket lines outside school gates across the Island.

On that occacsion, the Isle of Wight County Press ran a live blog, which can you catch up with HERE.
