HAVE you ever wanted to learn Scottish country dancing? There may never be a better time to get involved with the Isle of Wight's own Caledonian Society!

You do not need to be Scottish or have a partner, says the IW Caledonian Society, which is open to new members.

Formed 70 years ago, the Society welcomes all, no matter your age or experience, with members in their 80s who still dance, new dancers and youngsters in their 20s seeking something different.

The Society has two qualified dance teachers who keep everyone on their toes with new and revived dances.

Joining the group will open the opportunity to take part in social events, such as the Burns Night Celebrations in Cowes last month.

This celebration of Scotland’s most famous poet, Robert Burns, saw a five-course silver service meal and an evening of entertaining speeches, dancing and laughter.

A spokesperson said: “You don't have to be Scottish to join, neither do you have to commit yourself to full membership straight away; come as a guest and see for yourself how relaxed, friendly and informal we are.”
