THE Isle of Wight Caledonian Society celebrated its Platinum Jubilee last month.

The society was founded in 1952 so Islanders could advance their Scottish culture and interests.

Its 70th birthday was commemorated at an annual St Andrew’s Night celebration on November 26, at Arreton Community Hall.

Current members, honorary members, ex-members, non-dancing members, past presidents and overseas visitors from the New Forest Scottish Country Dancers all came together in fellowship.

They sported their tartan and settled in for a buffet meal, followed by an evening of Scottish country dancing.

A new dance – Golden Hill Fort - was even devised for the occasion.

Memorabilia from over the years was displayed, and a birthday cake was made by Lin Patey, and ceremoniously cut by the current president, Judy Valvona.

The society welcomes anyone to join on Tuesday evenings, from 7pm at St George’s School in Newport.

You don’t have to be Scottish, and you don’t need a dance partner.
