TWO popular Isle of Wight businesses have closed their doors for the final time.

Ingrams Building Contractors, which has served the town for more than 180 years, and The Island Kitchen Company, which sold Scavolini Kitchens, have both ceased trading.

They were both based in Albert Street, Ventnor.

Their owners, Gary and Tracy Ward, are emigrating to Italy to start a new venture.

Gary told the County Press they have relatives in Northern Italy, and the pair have bought a property with an olive grove in Puglia.

They plan to set up glamping tents in their olive grove, and Gary is excited to start their new adventure.

“Bring it on,” said Gary.

“I’ve been doing kitchens for 30 years and running the Island Kitchen Company for the last 12.

“I’m not going to miss it too much, but I’d like to thank all our customers, and wish them all the best in the future.”

On Saturday, Ingrams Building Contractors ran a closing down yard sale.

Office equipment, sheet material, bricks and blocks, electric power tools and site equipment such as fencing, ladders and scaffolding boards were among the varied items being sold.

Ingrams were one of the oldest established builders trading on the Isle of Wight, having celebrated 175 years of trading in Ventnor in 2015.

In recent years, they were involved in several notable projects, including at the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and Ventnor Cricket Academy.

The Island Kitchen Company were among the UK’s first dealers for Scavolini kitchen bathrooms and living furniture, and ran a showroom in Ventnor, where visitors could view classic and modern kitchen designs.

Henry Ingram and Sons Funeral Directors, next door, confirmed they are unaffected and remain open for business.
