Wet Leg have won two Grammy Awards - and it marks yet another major milestone for the hugely successful Isle of Wight band.

Who are Wet Leg?

There's a huge musical heritage on the Island - not least because many local kids grow up attending a massive rock festival every year thanks to the Isle of Wight Festival at Seaclose.

There's a highly regarded music college, Platform One, where Wet Leg's Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers both studied.

Level 42 and The Bees both hail from the Island, and Rob Da Bank ran Bestival from Robin Hill for several years before it relocated.

Against this background, five musicians from the Isle of Wight formed Wet Leg - Teasdale and Chambers, with Joshua Mobararki, Henry Holmes and Ellis Durand.

As children, both girls moved to the Isle of Wight from the mainland but always felt they belonged here.

They would take part in their local carnivals, Rhian in Sandown and Hester in Yarmouth, and both were involved in the music scene for many years, performing as part of Plastic Mermaids and in other projects, with Rhian performing as RHAIN.

Wet Leg first came to everyone's attention in 2021 when they released Chaise Longue and it became an immediate earworm.

They played the Big Top at the Isle of Wight Festival that year and spoke exclusively to the County Press

They unveiled the name of their album, the eponymous Wet Leg, in a full-page advert in the County Press, choosing their local paper for the big reveal.

In April, 2022, the album was named the UK's number one album on the official charts, and the quirky duo's debut release was also number one in Australia.

The new release outsold the rest of the Top 5 combined, earning them the second-biggest opening week for any chart-topping album in 2022 at the time.

By June 2022 everyone wanted to see them at the Isle of Wight Festival and their Big Top slot was packed out.

The Grammy Awards double win seals the approval of the music industry.

What's next for Wet Leg?

The success may keep coming for the Indie band.

They're nominated for four BRIT Awards - Mastercard album of the year, group of the year, best new artist and alternative/rock act.

Wet Leg will also perform at the ceremony on February 11.

They are also supporting Harry Styles on tour in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

A second Wet Leg album could be incoming - they revealed it was "in the bag" when they spoke to Absolute Radio backstage at the Isle of Wight Festival last year.

Tune in to the Brits on Saturday for the next stage in Wet Leg's phenomenal music career.
