A landslip has forced the closure of a popular footpath in East Cowes.

Islanders are being told to not enter the woodland, near the Esplanade.

A landslip is said to be developing at the back of the woods, causing a tree to become unstable and cracks to appear in the path.

Signs have appeared on the top footpath of Woodland Circle Walk, saying 'danger do not enter'.

Cllr Karl Love said: "I strongly recommend not going into the woods at all beyond the steel gate by the toilets.

"I strongly advise no entry in all cases at this time on both the upper and lower paths .

"It is dangerous to walk near it or below it or on the paths."

The area has a history of landslips over decades, Cllr Love said.
