A FLOOD alert in place for the Eastern Yar area has been removed this morning (Thursday).

The Environment Agency issued the alert yesterday (Wednesday) after 38mm of rain was recorded in 24 hours in Knighton.

At 4pm yesterday, water levels peaked at Alverstone, a little later than forecast.

The Environment Agency’s Flood Alert service said in its update at 8am that water levels in the Eastern Yar are now falling.

Over the weekend, the weather is expected to be dry, giving river levels time to recover.

The flood alert was in place for the area surrounding Eastern Yar and its tributaries between Whitwell to Bembridge.

A hosepipe ban remains in place for the Isle of Wight.
