A SERIOUS crash on The Downs Road has left a driver trapped inside their vehicle this afternoon (Wednesday).
Police and fire crews from Newport and Ryde were alerted at around 12.45pm to reports that a vehicle had left the road near Knighton.
Fire crews are working to release the driver from the vehicle with ambulance crews also on the scene.
The Downs Road has been closed between the Hare and Hounds Pub and the Brading Downs Road.
Isle of Wight Police say the road is expected to be closed for some time, while emergency services deal with the incident.
Southern Vectis said: "We have been advised of an crash on The Downs Road.
"As a result, our Downs Breezer route will divert from Robin Hill, via Arreton and Lake, to reach Sandown."
