REPORTS of a man with a knife in his hand and shouting in the street led to an arrest in Ryde, police have confirmed.

Yesterday evening (Saturday), Melville Street was closed due to police activity. 

There was a large police presence in the area, comprising police vans and two marked cars. 

It has now been confirmed that a 59-year-old man from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with this incident.

He remains in police custody at this time.
