A woman aged in her 80s has died, almost a week after she was rescued from a fire in a bungalow on the Isle of Wight.

Newport, Ryde and Shanklin firefighters were called to Newport Road, Northwood, on June 20, at around 3pm, and spent around an hour at the incident.

A woman rescued from the property was taken to St Mary's Hospital in Newport, where she was being cared for.

However, Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed she died on Sunday, June 26.

The police force said: "We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

"The fire is not thought to have been set deliberately at this time.

"Police are working with the fire service and the Coroner to establish the wider circumstances."
