THERE has been another large increase in the number of Isle of Wight Covid cases, according to the latest data.

Public Health England figures released today (Monday) show 34 new cases since yesterday's 50.

It takes the Isle of Wight total, since the start of the pandemic, to 7,464.

On Saturday, 86 new Covid-19 positives were announced.

The Island remains among the areas with the lowest amount of new cases per 100,000 people.

Its rolling average of cases per 100,000, in the seven days to July 14, was 153.1.

Yesterday, that figure stood at 132.6.

The new cases come as the Isle of Wight — along with the rest of country— sees Covid guidelines eased.

Following recent government announcements, most of England's legal restrictions, brought in to fight against Covid-19, are being lifted.

Meanwhile, three year groups from the Christ the King college have been sent home due to Covid.

So many children at the school have been required to learn from home that they will finish the year remotely.
