TWO children were offered sweets by a stranger early on Thursday morning — an incident similar to others reported on the Island in recent weeks.

It happened on a path near Lower Hyde Holiday Park in Shanklin.

The father of one of the children told the County Press: "My son, age 11, and his friend were approached on the path between Lower Hyde Holiday Park and Landguard Holiday Park.

"A man approached them and offered sweets. The boys sped off on their scooters.

"It's very worrying. People need to be aware of these incidents and the children need to be reminded what is and is not safe and what to do if someone does approach them."

The matter was reported to the police.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We have received a report of a man acting suspiciously on Thursday between 7.35am and 8.05am close to Lower Hyde Holiday Park.

"A boy was approached by an unknown man and was offered sweets. No offences have been disclosed."

On April 22, a child was approached and offered sweets by an adult stranger in Caesars Road, Newport.

On May 7, a child was approached in the Carisbrooke area. The child was offered sweets, which they declined before running off.

On May 13, a child was approached at Sandown Train Station by a stranger.
