Anti-skid surfacing will be laid on the Isle of Wight roads from next month (April).
Contractor Island Roads is calling it a 'major safety programme' and says sections of the new St Mary’s junction in Newport are among the places earmarked for the work.
Work will be undertaken at night time and must start in April because temperatures need to be above freezing and conditions need to be dry.
A second phase will take place in late summer and early autumn.
As well as installing new anti-skid measures, pedestrian crossings and cycle lanes will be installed.
The major work around St Mary’s junction, which is scheduled to last eight nights, is expected to start on April 12.
A local diversion will be in place.
