Phase one of work to rebuild and resurface East Cowes's busiest road is due to finish today, Tuesday, March 23.

Described as a 'major project', Island Roads is working on York Avenue, between the Hawthorn Meadows roundabout and East Cowes town hall, over four phases until June.

There will also be overnight resurfacing work.

The project started on March 1.

Diversions are in place for all traffic, including cars leaving the Red Funnel car ferry terminal.

Phase one has seen work between Osborne House and south of Crossways Road and the contractor says it expects to finish on time, despite weather-related problems and damage to a water main.

Phase two will be between Victoria Grove and Osborne House and will take place from tomorrow Wednesday, March 24 until Friday, April 9

Phase three is expected to start on April 12, between Adelaide Grove and just north of Connaught Road.

Phase four, between Well Road and Adelaide Grove, runs from May 13 until June 2.

Resurfacing will be overnight between June 2 – 9.
