Six more cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed on the Isle of Wight today (Sunday).

It means the total number of coronavirus cases on the Island since March 2020 is now 6,682.

Meanwhile, three new deaths at St Mary's Hospital have been announced this weekend.

It brings to 147, the total number of people who have died there from Covid-19.

With thousands of school children returning to class, and a programme of lateral flow testing rolling out, the Isle of Wight's director of public health, Simon Bryant, has warned case numbers will rise.

It it because people who are not displaying any symptoms and may not have realised they had coronavirus, are now being tested.

Isle of Wight County Press:

Access to lateral flow tests has been stepped up and secondary school children are being voluntarily tested.

There has also been a small rise in the Isle of Wight's average number of cases per 100,000 people, in the seven days to March 9.

The rate currently stands at 14.8 - up from yesterday's figure of 14.1.

It places us 21st lowest on the government's data table, but the rate is below average.
