A new death from Covid-19 has been announced by NHS.

A person died at St Mary's Hospital in Newport yesterday (Saturday, March 13).

It means 147 people have now died in hospital on the Island since the start of the pandemic.

On Saturday, two further deaths were announced and two more confirmed cases of coronavirus were added to the Isle of Wight's overall figures.

It means, since March 2020, there have been 6,676 cases of Covid-19 on the Isle of Wight.

New daily case data will be updated at around 4pm today.

Since the start of the pandemic, more than 120 people have also died in the Island's community (at home, in a hospice, or in a care home) according to separate data, which is updated weekly.

Yesterday (Saturday), the Isle of Wight's rolling average rate per 100,000 people was 14.1, for the seven days to March 8 - a rise compared to recent days.

Director of public health for the Isle of Wight, Simon Bryant, had previously warned that the Island was likely to see an increase in the number of people with coronavirus.

The roll out of asymptomatic testing - giving people without symptoms access to lateral flow tests - means more cases will be picked up, allowing people to isolate more swiftly.

Among those being tested this week were thousands of returning secondary school children.

On Friday, the County Press reported that three schools had announced cases of coronavirus, leading to a handful of people isolating.
