Cowes Enterprise College has told parents of a confirmed case of Covid-19 that has meant its Year Eight students must now isolate.

In secondary schools, a whole year group counts as a 'bubble'.

Pupils in the year group are learning from home until November 17, said the school.

It has assured families with children other years that the school remains open.

In a text to parents, the Ormiston Academy school said: "There is no impact on students in other year groups and they should continue to attend school as usual."

The Isle of Wight Council said: "Following an individual testing positive for Covid-19 and close consultation with Public Health England and the Department for Education, the Year 8 student bubble and three members of staff have been identified as needing to self-isolate as a precautionary measure.

"Given the robust safety measures we have in place at the school including comprehensive contact tracing, we have been able to respond immediately and these students are now accessing remote learning from home, to limit any disruption to their education.

"The school is safe to remain open to all other students, as a result of the various stringent safety measures we have in place. Our absolute priority continues to be the health, safety and wellbeing of our whole school community and we will carry on working closely with Public Health England to ensure we are taking all the necessary precautions."

Elsewhere today (Friday), around forty pupils and staff from Binstead Primary were told to isolate after a confirmed case of coronavirus.
