Just 40 minutes later another call came through and the teams were sent to Whitecliff Bay, to a person having a medical episode while in the sea.

The team arrived to find the person was safe and well, in the care of the ambulance service.

At 6.29pm they were paged to a casualty with an injury on the beach at Shepherds Chine, Atherfield.

The casualty was located, placed on a stretcher and extracted to the cliff top.

A spokesperson for the Ventnor team said: "Extremely busy month so far with 17 calls in 18 days for the team.

"Stay safe everyone, enjoy the coast but check weather conditions, tides, equipment and that it’s in a serviceable condition.

"Remember in a coastal emergency dial 999 or VHF Ch16 for Coastguard."
