Following the launch of the Isle of Wight Council and County Press's anti-litter campaign on Friday, reader Paul Knocker has sent a picture which shows the shocking extent of the problem.

Paul said his picture was one of a number taken yesterday (Monday) in the National Trust St Helens Duver car park.

Paul said: "None of this rubbish was there on Sunday, so this looks like a midnight drop by a truck or van, no doubt someone who has been paid to take away this rubbish, but wanted to avoid any tip charges.

Isle of Wight County Press:

"A similar pile of black bags are on the other side of the car park.

"We feel very sorry for the National Trust, who will have great difficulty clearing this mess from the ground and high in the bushes….and it will be a high cost for them.

"How can this be stopped and the people caught and prosecuted?"

Paul added: "After your headline Let’s Clean Up, Don’t despoil our Isle! and the initiative by County Press and the IW Council to tackle the litter and fly-tipping problem…this is a particularly disappointing development.

"Perhaps the pictures will help to drive home the need for action now. "
