THE WOMAN hit by a bus in Newport yesterday is being treated for a serious injury in Southampton General.

The 49-year-old, from Newport, was hit by a Southern Vectis bus, last night, at the junction on South Street near Morrisons and Thompsons restaurant.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called to South Street at 8.45pm on February 8, following a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian.

"The 49-year-old female pedestrian, from Newport, suffered a serious injury and is being treated at Southampton General Hospital.

"Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing.

"No one else was injured."

Simon Moye, Southern Vectis operations manager, said: “One of our vehicles was involved in an incident in Newport earlier this evening with a pedestrian.

“The pedestrian was treated by paramedics at the scene, and taken to hospital. At this stage we do not know the extent of their injuries, but we are monitoring their progress and wish them a full and speedy recovery.

“We are providing support for our driver. We are also assisting police as they carry out their enquiries.”
