Isle of Wight football teams were in cup action on Tuesday (September 8) as East Cowes Vics won and Newport and Cowes failed to progress.

East Cowes Vics completed an impressive away win to progress in the Wessex Cup as they took on Fawley.

The Islanders started over the Solent well as they went one up through Char HAWARD in the 32nd minute.

Char seemed to be the lucky name as five minutes later, Vics's Char HART doubled the tally.

With a commanding performance, East Cowes were all but through to the third round - but Will BRIDI made a likelihood a certainty with a third goal in the 77th minute.

Newport found themselves on the back foot early doors as Folland Sports took the lead 22 minutes in.

However, Port quickly replied as Sonny MYRAM equalised - an end-to-end pattern that would persist throughout the 90 minutes.

Jez CONWAY found a second for the Islanders, only for their lead to be blunted at the stroke of half time.

Follands, with momentum, then took a lead with a quick double, dampening Port's hopes of progression.

However, Sonny MYRAM bagged his brace and Jez CONWAY followed suit to make the game 4 a piece.

Unfortunately, Follands found a fifth to win the tie and knock Port out in a dramatic finish.

A dismal start for the Yachtsmen didn't get much better - Cowes Sports found themselves submerged five goals down at half time.

Fans can be buoyed by goals from Otto WEST and Sam HATTON in the second half, but Cowes exited the Hampshire League Cup decisively.
