There were mixed fortunes for the Isle of Wight’s three Wessex League sides today (Saturday, August 29).
Newport recorded an emphatic away win, East Cowes Vics battled to a draw and Cowes Sports suffered their first defeat in four matches.
Starting with Vics, here's how today's action unfolded...
Vics twice came from behind to earn a point against Hamble in the Wessex Premier Division on a damp August afternoon at Beatrice Avenue.

Vics were looking to bounce back following last weekend’s defeat to Horndean, but it was the visitors who made the brighter start.
Keeper George Bridi was called into action inside three minutes, clawing away a dangerous cross, while Hamble continued to pose the greater threat during the opening stages.
Vics struggled to create anything of substance and had to wait until the half-hour mark for their first effort on target, when Josh Neale saw his shot blocked.
Six minutes later, Hamble were awarded a penalty after a ball into the box was contested by several players, with the referee pointing to the spot to the surprise of the home crowd.
Defender Jack Francis stepped up and made no mistake, smashing the spot-kick straight down the middle to give the visitors the lead.
However, Francis went from hero to villain in first-half stoppage time when he headed into his own net to send Vics into the break level.
The hosts emerged with renewed purpose and Neale forced a good save from the Hamble keeper within a minute of the restart.
Hamble restored their advantage on 51 minutes after a cross was headed goalwards and Liam Triggs' desperate attempt to clear ended with the ball deflecting off a Vics defender and into the net.
Vics responded again and found their second equaliser in the 67th minute.
Macca Barnes delivered a corner into the box which dropped perfectly for Toby Snow, who headed home from inside the six-yard box to make it 2-2.
Hamble almost snatched all three points in the final minute, but Francis' effort struck the outside of the post.
Vics remain at home in midweek, when they welcome Hythe and Dibden to Beatrice Avenue on Tuesday night.
Cowes Sports suffered their first defeat in four matches as unbeaten Fareham Town continued their perfect start to the Wessex Premier Division season.

The Yachtsmen travelled to Cams Alders on the back of a strong opening to the campaign but faced a Fareham side yet to drop a point.
The hosts needed only six minutes to open the scoring and put Cowes on the back foot.
Cowes went close to an equaliser around ten minutes later, but Fareham instead doubled their advantage shortly after the 20-minute mark.
The home side created further opportunities to add a third before half-time but were unable to capitalise.
Cowes remained resolute during the second half despite Fareham continuing to create the better chances.
One dangerous ball flashed across the face of goal and narrowly wide of the post, while another Fareham effort forced Cowes keeper Ed Hatt into action.
Scott McFarlane was sent to the sin bin during the closing stages, leaving Cowes temporarily a man short, but the Island side prevented Fareham from extending their lead.
The 2-0 defeat was Cowes' first loss in four matches, while the victory sent Fareham to the top of the Premier Division table.
The Yachtsmen will look to respond on Tuesday night when they host Baffins Milton Rovers at the Diverse Marine Stadium.
Newport continued their impressive start to the Wessex League Division One campaign with a commanding victory away at Hedge End Rangers.

The hosts entered the contest fresh from a 5-0 cup victory over Waterlooville AFC in midweek, but it was Port who struck first after only seven minutes.
Skipper Jordan Browne found the net to give Newport an early advantage before the complexion of the match changed further just three minutes later.
Joe Butcher raced through on goal before being brought down, with the challenge resulting in Hedge End being reduced to ten men.
Butcher made Newport's advantage count in the 24th minute, firing towards the top-left corner.
The Hedge End keeper managed to get a hand to the shot but could not prevent the powerful effort from finding the net.
Port added a third shortly before half-time through prolific talisman Ji Nash, putting the visitors firmly in control.
Hedge End were handed an opportunity to reduce the deficit from the penalty spot on the hour mark, but Newport keeper Leon Pitman produced the save.
Seven minutes later came the goal of the afternoon.
Connor Kelly spotted the Hedge End goalkeeper well outside his penalty area and tried his luck from just beyond the halfway line, sending a pinpoint effort into the empty net to make it 4-0.
The hosts pulled one back in the 71st minute, but it proved to be little more than a consolation as Port comfortably saw out the remainder of the contest.
Attention now turns to a landmark evening for the club on Tuesday.
Newport will welcome Fawley AFC to WightFibre Park for their first competitive match at their new home, bringing an end to seven years of ground sharing.
