EAST Cowes Vic's Hampshire Senior Cup campaign came to an early end under the floodlights at Alton, who took control with an early goal and a memorable second-half free kick.
ALTON 2, EAST COWES VICS 0
Alton struck after just two minutes, when Emmanuel Acheampong headed home from a corner, but Vics remained very much in the contest throughout the first half.
Vics stopper George Bridi produced an excellent penalty save to keep the deficit at one goal, while both sides created chances in an evenly balanced opening 45 minutes.
Gabe Wall replaced Dylan Wightwick shortly after the restart, but Vics suffered a setback on 54 minutes when Hadif Darwysh doubled Alton's lead.
From wide on the left, his curling outswinging free kick drifted beyond Bridi and went in off the far post.
Harrison Yates came on for Toby Snow and Isaac Glynn later replaced Jordan Chapman, to try to save the tie, but Vics were unable to find a way back.
