THE Wight Eagles Ladies returned to Hampshire Women’s League Division 2 action on Sunday, away to second-placed Winchester CF Reds in their first game since the Christmas break.

In horrid conditions on a boggy pitch, both sides struggled to keep possession in the wind and rain.
The Islanders were dealt an early blow when their captain, Millie Tinsley, went off injured midway through the first half.
After a reshuffle, Winchester struck first — drilling home from close range, after the Islanders failed to clear a set piece.
The Wight Eagles thought they had a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty for handball, only for the referee to overturn the decision after consulting the opposition linesman.
The second half saw Emma Webb introduced, and academy player Magenta Coleman pushed into midfield, as the Islanders dominated possession.
Forward, Daysi Chapman, impressed after moving deeper, while player of the match, Tawnie Siddall, linked play superbly.
Their pressure paid off when Kira Smith was fouled in the area and converted the resulting penalty into the top corner.
The Wight Eagles looked the more likely winners at that stage, but the Winchester keeper stood firm.
Then came the sucker punch. In the final minute, Winchester were awarded a controversial penalty for handball and converted, to snatch all three points.
