Wins for Isle of Wight rowing clubs at final regatta of season

Isle of Wight rowing clubs finished their impressive seasons off in style at the final regatta of the season.

Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club and Ryde Rowing Club both secured wins at the Coalporters Junior and Novice Sculls Regatta on the River Itchen in Southampton on Saturday, August 16.

Connie Batley-Smith and Josh Batchelor won the J14 1x event, while the J14 girls double of Martha Eggleton and Amelia Chambers secured first place and J15's Layla Katirewa and Rose Collier also placed at the top.

Runner up positions at the club included Esme Walters in the novice sculls, Rose Collier in the J15 1x, Alex Collier and Josh Batchelor in the 2x and for the J16 girls quad.

Ryde Rowing Club's sculler Joe Bird won the boys J16 single sculls convincingly, while Max Locke finished fourth.

The pair competed together in the boys J16 double scull, finishing third in their semi final.

Meanwhile, Charlie Watts finished second in his final wile Isaac Gibson narrowly lost in his semi final to the eventual winner.

Both clubs will now prepare for the South Coast Rowing Championships in Plymouth on Saturday, September 6, having had crews qualify through outstanding performances throughout the season.
