Despite an early disaster, young cyclist Finley Manser-Grundy grasped victory at the Malverns Classic Bike Festival over the bank holiday weekend.

The Wightlink-Wight Mountain CRT Juvenile rider demonstrated skill and determination, managing to rise from last position to fourth overall in the under 8s, and taking first place in the under 6s, during the high-paced cross-country race on August 28.

In the ensuing Dual Slalom, Manser-Grundy advanced to the final match after securing the second-fastest time, only missing the top spot by 0.3 per cent.

He narrowly missed the first place but celebrated second place alongside a close friend.

In the subsequent downhill race, the challenge intensified as the weather deteriorated, but rain and wind did not deter the young cyclist.

Manser-Grundy powered through the harsh conditions, finishing in a respectable second place with a margin of just one second ending his hope for the top prize.

Through all three racing events during the elusive Malverns Classic Bike Festival, Manser-Grundy exemplified the spirit of a champion, rising above setbacks and weather adversities to secure multiple podium finishes.

Finley’s Dad said: "All in all, a great weekend of racing against riders from all round the country and it was great to see Finley stay determined and work his way back after a setback in the first race."
