Isle of Wight rugby's Sandown & Shanklin RFC Veterans have clinched the Hampshire Veterans Cup in style, by overpowering Petersfield RFC Veterans in a thrilling match, on Sunday, May 12.

For the Islanders, centre Luke Chandler stole the show, crossing the try line an impressive six times.

Andy White showcased his prowess with the Hurricanes' second score of the afternoon, while Luke Hunter added another highlight, scoring a stunning try following a chip by fly-half, Gary Warvill, who was named Wightfibre Man of the Match.

The first half ended with Sandown and Shanklin leading 31-10.

The second half saw the floodgates open for try scoring.

Joe Rees, Dan Taylor and club legend, Adam Tyas, all scored and Adam's was his first try for the club in over a decade.

Another try from Warvill put the finishing touches in, sealing the Hurricanes' victory.

There were thanks for Greg Dean, for organising and leading the team, outgoing director of rugby, Damien Marriott, and Ross Edmunds, for coaching and off-field management.
