This year’s race to the title in the Isle of Wight Division 1 came down to the wire, with West Wight and W&B neck and neck into the final game week.

West Wight 3-1 Shanklin

Brading 0-3 Whitecroft & Barton Sports

Ahead of the last round of games, the two Island clubs were tied on points, with W&B in pole position on goal difference.

West Wight kept the pressure on in their last match on Wednesday (May 8) with a 3-1 home win against Shanklin, with goals from Christopher Elliott, Blake Reeves and Ashley Brett.

W&B needed to secure three points away at Brading Town last night (Thursday, May 9) to win the league with their far superior goal difference.

Thanks to two goals from Josh Appell and another from Sam Yelland, W&B managed a 3-0 win, putting themselves 20 goals clear at the top.

W&B marked ten full seasons with the majority of the current squad of players, winning their eighth league title during that time.

The club has also won a Hampshire Cup, five Challenge Cups, three Memorial Cups, a Junior A Cup and a Jubilee Cup in the last decade.

W&B says it looks forward to being back and ready to do it all again next season.
