THE Wightlink Warriors Shale Track Racing Club staged their second Winter Warmer event of the season on Saturday.

Featuring 44 heats of various motorcycle racing, the day started with ten heats of youth speedway racing on smaller machines, with Charlie Southwick winning four of his five heats.

The weather was chilly at Smallbrook Stadium, but motorsport fans were warmed by some high octane action on the track.

There were eight qualifying heats in the GT140 event, which led to A and B finals, with Wayne Broadhurst and Ian Clark respectively winning them.

The overall final was won by Broadhurst after a great tussle with Clark, who was caught up in traffic early in the final.

In the flat track event, Chris Pugh came out on top — winning the eight-lap final comfortably from Brad Hardman.

In the four-valve upright speedway, Dave Hammond sent through the entire competition unbeaten, while Martyn Stacey came first in the two-valve event.

Meanwhile, in the senior 500cc training event, Islander Chad Wirtzfeld, who recently signed for the famous Belle Vue team in Manchester, went through the card comfortably.
