Ventnor put on a dazzling display as they defeated bottom side Alresford at Watcombe Bottom on January 13.

VENTNOR 33, ALRESFORD 15

The home side were looking to bounce back from an 80-0 defeat to Andover II.

It was a nervy start to this one, too. Straight from kick off they conceded an early try, but it did not take them long to turn their fortunes around.

After a great break from Charlie Magnurson, the ball found its way to Lines. His pass found Souter, who dived over the line. Ed Blake added the conversion.

Soon after, Ventnor extended their lead. A speculative cross-kick was brilliantly fielded by Greatorex, who offloaded to Fred Fairman.

His pass found Cocks, who wrong-footed the full back, before touching down out on the left.

The move of the match came just before the break. The ball made its way to Richardson, who powered over for a try. Blake converted.

At half-time it was Ventnor 18, Alresford 8.

In the second-half, a switch from Lines was met by Cocks, who added his second try of the match. Once again, Blake converted.

To their credit, Alresford did manage to get themselves back in the game.

Ventnor's George Collett took a team yellow. This was followed by another for Frampton, who was deemed to have gone beyond the ball in a ruck.

Alresford took advantage, forcing themselves over the line for a try.

But Ventnor were in no mood to lose.

After great work from Richardson, Blake and Greatorex, fullback Jake Babington jinxed his way over the line.

Blake tucked away the game's final conversion.
