A HUGE contingent of Ryde Harriers runners crossed The Solent to compete in the popular annual Stubbington 10km run on Sunday.

In crisp, bright, winter conditions, the 39 Island runners were keen to put their winter training to good use for the first race of the Hampshire Road Race League.

The Isle of Wight was well represented by various running clubs.

Ryde Harriers produced some outstanding individual results, with Dan Eckersley coming second in 31mins 24secs, followed by Chris Newnham in third in 32.12.

Dan and Chris, together with Dave Hunt (33.20) and Jake Brougham (35.04) won the team event.

Carly Scoble (38.51) was the first Ryde Harriers woman over the finish line.

Across the board, Harriers were pleased with their results, with some great personal bests, including Trevor McAlister, who shaved off 20 seconds.
