SOME top-quality table tennis was on show in the Isle of Wight League.

In Division One, match of the week was between Ryde A and Ryde B.

Ryde A’s Scott Lawson kept his unbeaten record by the skin of his teeth, beating Ryde B’s Alex Rorke in a five-set thriller.

The A team’s other players struggled in their games, while Rorke’s teammates Bryce Wilson and Tim Giles performed well, leading to a 6-4 victory to the B team.

Ryde Goshawks got the better of Newport Vics B, meanwhile, with 19-year-old Joe Chapman named player of the match, and Newport’s Rob Warren taking the only win for his team.

Ryde Reprobates also made short work of Ryde Ravens, winning 8-2, with junior Lewis Johnstone from the British Senior League in action and the player of the match.

In Division Two, Newport Vics C thrashed Ryde Rockets 10-0, with Lawrence Fo player of the match.

A bottom of the table encounter between Ryde Lizards and Ryde Allsorts saw the latter claim a rare, easy win, with the match ending 8-2, and the Allsorts’ Manfred Gelhard shining.

With only two matches played in Division Three, second placed Shorwell Spinners and leaders Newport Vics D both had easy wins against Ryde Rustics and Ryde Frogs respectively, with Newport stretching their lead at the top to 19 points.
