FANS of two-wheeled track sport missing the buzz of close quarter action, need look no further than Ryde's Smallbrook Stadium as the Island’s speedway venue plays host to a winter spectacular.

Island Speedway promises not only speedway, but also grass track GT140 and flat track racing tomorrow (Saturday).

This training meeting is expected to attract more than 50 riders, who will compete in more than 40 races across the three disciplines.

"Starting at 11am, the extravaganza will run well into the afternoon as qualification for various finals bring top racers head-to-head, for an exciting climax," said Wightlink Warriors’ co-owner, Barry Bishop.

Warrior, Arran Butcher, will head the speedway contingent, while national champion, Ian Clark, leads the GT140 competitors, and exciting flat track pro racer, Jack Bell, will take some stopping.

Barry adds: “Co-owner, Martin Widman, and I have received regular approaches about putting on a winter event, so this year, having lost so many of our summer track days to the weather, we thought it'd be good for fans if we give it a try.

"Essentially, it’s a training day, but in a real meeting environment, to allow all riders to test and prepare for 2024, with the help of the flat and grass track communities.

"We've been able to construct a full day of action. It’s taken much planning, but we hope supporters are able to enjoy a pre-Christmas, all-action treat."
