Kickboxers from the Isle of Wight, including two young amateurs, are celebrating success in the 2023 Southern Area Grand Slam Martial Arts Championships, which concluded this month.

Competitors accrue points over the year and the Isle of Wight Panther kickboxing club, at TJs gym in Sandown, is turned out three division winners. 

Katie Moram, 14, from Shanklin was named southern champion for intermediate and advanced point scoring and also advanced for light contact

Alfred 'Alfie' Whiting, 12, from Lake, won two divisions, including novice light contact, while coach, George Borrett, won light contact -70kg men's. 

"We travelled over as a small team, with Coach George leading the way for the day!

"Massive impact from our small Island club!

"A massive improvement from all this year and the results are showing," the club said on social media.

Amy Moram, mum of triple-winner Katie, said: "I'm so proud of everything Katie has achieved this year. She works so hard and trains three to four times a week, and has overcome so much to get to where she is.

"We're looking forward to seeing what she can do in the future!"
